Tree Pickup Day 7:00 a.m. to Early Afternoon A November Saturday - See Calendar
Picking up trees
Join the group of able-bodied volunteers to head up into the woods to load trees from Weyerhaeuser Forests. Volunteers load these trees into large farming dump trucks by walking behind the trucks and handing the trees up to volunteers in the trucks who stack them. The trees are pre-cut and lying beside the road, so we never need to leave the logging roads. Volunteers may choose to drive themselves or carpool.
Workers should be dressed for cold and wet weather including sturdy work shoes or boots. Gloves, safety goggles, and some rain gear are provided.

The day starts with a complimentary breakfast at a local restaurant at about 7:00 a.m. and includes light refreshment after the trees are loaded.

Everyone is welcome! However, those under 16 must have adult supervision.

putting up cables and wiring
Come on out for a few hours and help setup the ceiling cable grids and wire trees up to the grid to create the forest walkways and scene spaces following the presentation floor plan.

Those setting up the cable grids and wiring trees need the ability to climb a ladder. However, there is a lot of ground workers needed to sort and move trees around, assist folks who are on ladders, sweep, and perform many other ground-level activities. All are welcome including women and youth 16 or older. Those under 16 can help if accompanied by an adult.

Dress warmly as the venue is not heated. Sturdy shoes and gloves are suggested.

Workers are needed all day on Sunday—usually 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. NO WORK ON THANKSGIVING DAY. Any help is appreciated even if you can come for only one work session.

Setup Day 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, after Thanksgiving
Set up day - a lot gets done here
Biggest volunteer day of the season—200 volunteers needed! Come on out and join the fun of this one-day setup of all the Christmas Storybook Land scenes!

Start at 9 a.m. with the unloading of the seven semi-trailers jam-packed with all the Storybook Land scenery. Then volunteers find and place each piece of scenery which is mostly in barrels in the marked location for each display.

After unloading the trailers, there is a well-deserved break for refreshments. Then volunteers head to a section and begin unloading the barrels and creating the scenes with the help of scene pictures and a section leader. At noon a free spaghetti luncheon is served for all the wonderful volunteers, and then it is back to work to complete putting lights on trees, adding backdrops, fencing and all the finishing touches that make Christmas Storybook Land come alive.

To accomplish this monumental task in ONE DAY at least 200 helpers are needed—so come on out and bring your friends. Youth from high schools, middle schools, scouts, Young Marines, and other youth organizations are encouraged to participate. A volunteer work validation form is available so youth may receive community service hours for their effort.

As the Cascade Pavilion isn’t heated, dress warmly. Coat, hat, gloves, and sturdy shoes are recommended. Check in at the sign-in table to receive your name badge.
